It’s the end of day 4, we’re in Les Chapiuex, and I’ve just eaten the most incredible cheese board. It’s pretty magical here: a beautiful, tiny French hamlet, with stone buildings, wooden shutters, chickens running around, and no wifi or phone signal. It might well be the most beautiful place I’ve stayed.
It’s all been pretty magical since setting off from Trient, and the sun has not stopped shining. My favourite thing about running is moving through different landscapes, so no wonder I’m loving it so much.
We’ve covered over 70 miles so far, through France, Switzerland and Italy, across grassy green fields, exposed ridges, along rivers, through woodland…and the views have been out of this world!
On our route from La Fouly to Courmayeur, we did the Grand Col Ferret mountain pass, which reached over 8,000ft, and Mont Blanc looked almost within touching distance. I’ve never had that sense of height before, and it was so exhilarating. I felt like I was at Everest Base Camp!
My hip flexors are still screaming, but the views have dulled the soreness. Apart from that, my body is holding up OK. The overall fatigue is starting to build up a bit, but with just two days left to go, I guess that’s to be expected.
My thoughts have turned to the end now, and I don’t want it to be over…
