In the mood for an alpine escape? Ski season is still in full throttle, with the season typically lasting until April, though individual resorts and particularly cold areas may extend this. If the colder weather has inspired you to hit the slopes, we’ve compiled a list of area recommendations to suit any time frame. Limited to a weekend? Or maybe you’re indulging in a two-week ski splurge? However long you’ve got, check out our guide on some of the world’s best ski locations.

A day

If you just have one day to play with, you can still fit some quality skiing in. There are plenty of indoor ski slopes dotted all over the UK, offering you the chance to ski and snowboard without trekking to a mountainous locale and what’s more, you’ll be home in time for dinner! SnowDome in Tamworth, Chill Factore in Manchester and Snozone in Milton Keynes provide lift passes, ski hire and lessons for beginners.

Weekend (2-3 days)

You can do a lot with a weekend if you’re ready for a full-on couple of days. Ideally, you should be looking at outdoor ski resorts closer to home, places that will require a few hours of travelling (depending on whereabouts in the UK you live, of course) but close enough to not cut too much into your precious skiing time.

       Glencoe, Scotland

Glencoe, situated in the Scottish Highlands, offers a rugged, scenic skiing experience. Known for its dramatic mountain views, it’s a hot destination for skiers and snowboarders looking for challenging runs and off-piste zones. It’s certainly one for the adventurer’s bucket list.

       Chamonix, France

One of the most iconic ski destinations in the world, Chamonix is renowned for its challenging terrain, including steep slopes and glaciers. Located at the foot of Mount Blanc, it offers 150km of skiable ground, attracting advanced skiers and mountaineers seeking a thrilling alpine experience.

       Arinsal, Andorra

Part of the Vallnord ski area, Arinsal offers 63km of varied slopes, perfect for skiers of all levels, with a reputation for being beginner-friendly whilst still providing exciting terrain for the more experienced. Its lively village, affordable prices and great snow conditions make it a popular destination for families and groups.

A long weekend to a week

Extending a weekend and giving yourself more time to play with means you can set your ski sticks further afield. With up to a week dedicated towards the slopes, you can afford to travel a little further and trust us, it’ll be worth it.

       Ischgl, Austria

Known for its vibrant après-ski scene and extensive ski area, Ischgl offers 238km of slopes and cutting-edge facilities. It connects with Switzerland’s Samnaun resort, providing a cross-border skiing experience (which we think is pretty cool), and is famous for its buzzing atmosphere and exciting après-ski entertainment.

       Vogel-Bohinj, Slovenia

Located in the heart of the Triglav National Park, Vogel-Bohinj boasts stunning views of Lake Bohinj and the surrounding Alps. It’s a great destination for skiers and snowboarders seeking a quieter, more scenic alternative to larger resorts.
