Throughout 2025, we celebrated a milestone that means a great deal to us at Grangers: 20 years since we launched the world’s first 2-in-1 cleaning and reproofing solution. Back in 2005, Wash + Repel 2 in 1 changed the way outdoor lovers cared for their gear, and two decades on, it’s still the only product of its kind in the world. Throughout that time, we’ve been able to save you time, energy and water and that’s something we’re incredibly proud of.
How It Began
Grangers has been helping people enjoy the outdoors since 1937, so innovation has always been part of our DNA. By the early 2000s, our Technical Team was already known for pushing boundaries, but one idea really stood out: what if you could clean and reproof outdoor gear in a single wash?
At the time, the industry believed this simply couldn’t be done. Cleaning agents and water-repellent chemistries are natural opposites – combine them and they naturally cancel each other out. But we didn’t see an impossible problem; we saw a challenge worth solving.
Through relentless testing, technical skill and a deep understanding of fabric performance, Karolina Jones, our Technical Director at the time (now our CEO and Technical Director), cracked the chemistry. The result was Wash + Repel Clothing 2 in 1, soon followed by Wash + Repel Down 2 in 1, designed specifically for insulated and down-filled gear. One wash. Two jobs done. Performance restored.
Why It Matters
Outdoor clothing relies on durable water-repellent finishes to keep you dry and comfortable. Over time, dirt, oils and general wear reduce breathability and water repellency, meaning your kit stops performing as it should. Traditionally, restoring that performance meant multiple wash cycles: one to clean, another to reproof.
Our 2 in 1 technology changed that. By cleaning and reproofing at the same time, it saves time, energy and water without compromising on performance. For anyone juggling busy lives with a love of the outdoors, that simplicity makes a real difference.
From 2005-2025, that difference has added up. Based on total sales and average wash times, our 2 in 1 products have helped save more than:

· 341 million watts of energy
· 64 years of time
That’s less waiting around for laundry and more time doing what really matters: getting outside and we’re excited to see those figures continue to build.
